The Minority in Parliament, conducted by Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has declared plans to instigate an investigative quest to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region following savage clashes between local miners and AngloGold Ashanti.
The intense, which followed in nine deaths and many injuries, flared up between local miners and military personnel positioned to keep safe AngloGold Ashanti’s operations.
He warned that if the government fails to organize a reliable inspection, Parliament will take matters into its own hands.
Afenyo-Markin manifested profound treat over the incident and called for swift and comprehensive action to address the basic issues that led to the disagreement.
He emphasized the value of encouraging peaceful coexistence among local communities, mining companies, and security forces.
“If the government does not act – we don’t want empty actions but a comprehensive approach that people can trust. Parliament will form a committee to immediately visit Obuasi and address this issue, ensuring the business community feels secure to operate in areas affected by violence,” Afenyo-Markin said.
