President Mahama orders probe into Obuasi AngloGold shooting incident

President John Dramani Mahama has initiated an investigation into the shooting incident at Obuasi AngloGold.

The president has launched an investigation into the unfortunate event that resulted in the loss of eight lives, with the goal of ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

“The government conveys deep condolences for the tragic loss of up to eight (8) lives, reported to be illegal miners, following a violent confrontation at a mining site in Obuasi,” the letter endorsed by Felix Ofosu-Kwakye, the spokesperson for the president, stated.

“Following the unfortunate incident, President John Dramani Mahama has launched an immediate investigation to determine the circumstances of the clashes and to ensure that anyone found to have acted unlawfully is held accountable,” he stated.

Nonetheless, the government has requested that the management of AngloGold Ashanti assume responsibility for covering all medical expenses for the injured individuals and provide assistance with the funeral arrangements for those who have died.
