Ken Ofori-Atta declared wanted by OSP over multiple corruption cases

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been officially charged as a suspect in four high-profile corruption cases by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

These cases include those related to Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), the National Cathedral project, and two other instances, according to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, Mr. Agyebeng announced that the former Finance Minister is now considered a wanted individual and must return to Ghana promptly to be questioned.

The investigations mainly focus on the actions of public officials during the administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Agyebeng disclosed that Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently under investigation, has left the country, and all efforts to summon him for questioning have been unsuccessful.

The Special Prosecutor has, however, threatened to take action to force his return if he does not comply.

“Mr. Ofori-Atta left the jurisdiction on or around January 2, 2025. On January 24, 2025, the OSP communicated to Mr. Ofori-Atta that the office considered him a suspect in four of the aforementioned cases,” he stated.

“Mr. Ofori-Atta was asked to attend in person on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM for an interview. However, Mr. Ofori-Atta instructed his lawyers to inform the OSP that he was out of the jurisdiction indefinitely on medical grounds,” Mr. Agyebeng disclosed.

“Mr. Ofori-Atta has no intention of willingly returning to the jurisdiction. That much is clear. Consequently, the OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person, a fugitive from justice,” he stated.

“The OSP is unconvinced that the purported medical letter submitted by Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers to the OSP indicates that Mr. Ofori-Atta is incapacitated or so ill that returning to the jurisdiction would endanger his life,” the OSP alleged.
