President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) made by the previous government, effective immediately.
The decision was communicated in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama.
The move is part of the Mahama administration’s attempt to restructure local governance in line with its policy goals once the new government takes office.
To ensure continuity in governance, the respective Coordinating Directors of the affected Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been instructed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are made.
This development marks a significant change in local government leadership across the country. It remains unclear what prompted the sweeping revocation, but it signals a potential restructuring of local governance under the current administration.
Observers and political analysts speculate that the move may be part of a broader effort to align the leadership of local government institutions with the President’s vision for decentralisation and rural development.
