Election 2024: Jean Mensa Cautions EC Officials to Uphold Integrity

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), has issued a stern reminder to EC officials about the critical nature of their role in the upcoming 2024 general elections. She urged them to prioritise fairness, transparency, and accountability in their actions, highlighting that their conduct would ultimately be judged by God.

Addressing a gathering ahead of the December 7 polls, Mensa underscored the EC’s commitment to organising free and fair elections, urging officials to avoid actions that could compromise the credibility of the process. “We are stewards of this nation’s democracy. Our actions today will echo beyond this election, and we must be guided by the principles of integrity and impartiality,” she said.

Mensa called on all political stakeholders to accept the outcome of the election in good faith, reiterating the EC’s role as a neutral referee. “Just as referees ensure fairness in a game, so must we in these elections. Transparency and collaboration with all stakeholders remain our guiding principles,” she added.

Her comments come amid heightened political activity as the nation prepares to elect new leaders. The EC has taken steps to ensure a seamless electoral process, including the successful organisation of a special voting exercise for security personnel, journalists, and EC staff who will be on duty during the general elections.

Jean Mensa’s remarks aim to reinforce public confidence in the EC as Ghanaians head to the polls in what is anticipated to be one of the most closely watched elections in the country’s history.
