Prez John Mahama Reduces Ministers To 23

President John Mahama has trimmed down the number of ministries in his second administration from 30 to 23.

Consequently, the number of ministers, deputy ministers and regional ministers to be appointed will not exceed 60.

The list of qualified Ghanaians who will serve as ministers and deputy ministers in President John Mahama’s second term will be released in two week as soon as Parliament constitutes its Appointments Committee.

The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Felix Kwakye Fosu wrote on his facebook wall that the list, which would be
“President John Dramani Mahama has by Executive Instrument,reduced the number of Ministries from 30 to 23. Here is a list of the Ministries established by him”

The President will communicate the list of his ministers to the nineth Parliament for vetting by the Appointments Committee and approval by the plenary.

This is expected to end the rumours, speculations, conjectures and intense lobbying, as well as the work of some spin doctors who have inundated the media space, both traditional and new media, with all kinds of names.

The 1992 Constitution requires that the President appoints not less than half of his ministers from Parliament.

Article 78 (1) states that: “Ministers of State shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of Parliament from among members of Parliament or persons qualified to be elected as members of Parliament, except that the majority of Ministers of State shall be appointed from among members of Parliament.”
