One time Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has called for the retirement of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
As stated by him, the Special Prosecutor is being used for political purposes and has failed the state.
His statement is in reaction to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng’s pronouncement of one-time Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a absconder in connection with financial loss to the country.
The one-time Director of the Ghana School of Law narrated Mr. Agyebeng’s current efforts as reprehensible, declaring that the Special Prosecutor needs the independence to make decisions on his own.
“If I were in the shoes of the Special Prosecutor, I would be the first person, in good conscience, to resign,” Ansa-Asare said in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, February 12.
When urged who was affecting the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Ansa-Asare answered, “Somebody is using him. We should stop this kind of politics. Who influences people in this country? Is it not those at the helm of affairs?”

“By himself, the Special Prosecutor would not do what he has done—he is spineless. He knows that until a person’s guilt is proven, he is innocent. An innocent person cannot be declared a wanted citizen running away from justice and be hounded out and brought back to Ghana in handcuffs.” he mentioned.
He condemned the OSP’s option to reveal the former Finance Minister an absconder, saying that the move counters the fundamental principles of the criminal justice system.
Mr. Ansa-Asare stressed that power over the criminal justice system eventually resides in the people and urged Ghanaians to look over how justice is controlled in the nation.
