Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has made it clear that he is not interested in taking on a ministerial role. He has always aspired to be the caucus leader.
During an appearance on Channel One TV’s “The Point View” with Bernard Avle, Mr. Ayariga stated that he was approached to lead the majority caucus even before the 2024 general elections.
He revealed that discussions about his ability to lead the majority caucus began while he was working hard with the then minority caucus.
“The proposal for me to take the lead was made prior to the election. Prior to the election, I was contacted by a few individuals. If you enquire with certain members of the current minority caucus about their time as the majority, they continue to convey to me that the prevailing sentiment is that once the election concludes, you will take the lead of the caucus,’’ he asserted.
“Before the president even contemplated his ministers and their placements, I must admit, I had been approached and was seriously considering taking the lead.” I prefer leading the caucus due to my experience in the executive role and my time serving as a presidential spokesperson. I have served as a deputy minister and minister across various ministries. “The one job I’ve really not done is to lead the caucus,” he stated.
Considering his background and leadership skills, his selection as Majority Leader is seen as a strategic decision that will assist in steering the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) legislative agenda in the forthcoming parliamentary session.
