Akuapem Poloo adjudged ‘Discovery of the Year’ at Ghana Movie Award

Ghanaian actress and socialite, Rosemond Brown, better known by the stage name Akuapem Poloo emerged as the ‘Discovery of the Year’ at the just-ended Ghana Movie Awards.

The event was held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The skilled actress secured an award for her exceptional performance in Juliet Ibrahim’s film “Widow’s Gift,” which she produced and directed.

Other nominees: Frank Ntiamoah, Matina Dwamena, Sherita Adu, Quesh, and Augustina Aboabo were fierce rivals to Rosemond. But in the end, the award went to her in recognition of her prowess and commitment to her job.

Akuapem Poloo was ecstatic to receive her plaque and expressed her debt of gratitude to God, the organizers, and Juliet Ibrahim for believing in her and providing her with the platform to participate in “Widow’s Gift.”

She also thanked all of the producers who starred her in their films, adding that being acknowledged in this way was an actualization of a dream.

“I’m happy to be here, to stand here, and receive an award. I think my first time coming to the Ghana Movie Awards was in 2016, and since then, they’ve been inviting me. But to be nominated, I will say a big thanks to Allah,’’ she expressed.

“I will say thank you to Juliet Ibrahim for casting me in Widow’s Gift. Thank you to the Ghana Movie Awards, and thank you, Mr. Fred, for believing in me, and thank you to all the producers who cast me in their movies.’’

“I’m too blessed to have the legendary Jackie Appiah and Ramsey Noah present this award to me,’’ Akuapem Poloo admitted.
