What Ghanaians need is less propaganda and more governance – Oppong Nkrumah

The former Minister of Information and Member of Parliament for the Ofoase/Ayirebi constituency has expressed his dissatisfaction with President John Dramani Mahama’s recent address to Parliament, criticizing the lack of clear policy initiatives.

He emphasized that Ghanaians had expected the president to present concrete strategies to address the country’s economic challenges, rather than blaming past governments.

Oppong Nkrumah remarked, “I was hoping to hear how he would tackle high food prices. I didn’t hear it. Did my colleagues hear it? Because by now, we should be debating it.”

The government’s decision to end several policies was also criticized, with Nkrumah arguing that not all of the previous administrations’ policies were detrimental.

“For instance, the Gold for Oil program was introduced to help stabilize the currency and manage fuel costs. Now it has been scrapped, and we don’t know what is replacing it.”

The former minister also criticized the president for failing to outline a clear strategy for his major campaign promises, including reducing unemployment and implementing a 24-hour economy.

“We were expecting to see detailed plans for the 24-hour economy. But up until now, there’s no clear definition of it. Everybody you speak to gives a different answer,” he claimed.

According to Nkrumah, what Ghanaians need now is “less propaganda and more governance.”
