Ministry Of Education Clarifies Misleading Report On Teacher Training Allowance

Reports indicate that the government is considering cutting allowances for teacher trainees across the country is not true. Statement released by the Ghana Education service indicates the story is false. The story gained attention after it was reported on the front page of the Daily Graphic.

This move, according to reports, is intended to pave the way for the introduction of student loans for these trainees.

The decision forms part of broader cost-cutting measures while expanding access to teacher training nationwide.

The proposed shift from allowances to a loan scheme has been met with mixed reactions. Some Ghanaians have welcomed the initiative, arguing that it is time for trainees to take responsibility for financing their education and repaying the loans upon gaining employment. Others, however, believe that the removal of allowances could place a financial burden on students who may struggle to access alternative funding sources.
