National Security warns Bediako Mensah

The National Security has rigged out a warning to self-styled herbal exponent ‘Dr.’ Alex Bediako Mensah over deceptive state concerning the restoration of licenses for traditional medicine exponents.

This goes after a declaration report by the Head of Public Affairs of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC), Numo Blafo III.

The dispute began when the TMPC mounted up its practice observing and checking of herbal facilities to make sure compliance with Section 9 (1) of the Traditional Medicine Practice Act 2000 (Act 575), which commands that only registered exponents are allowed to work herbal medicine facilities or produce herbal cures for sale.

Section 12 (1,2) of the Act also requires exponents to reopen their licenses periodically.

Throughout one of these inspections, the TMPC’s Compliance and Enforcement Inspectorate (CEI) team finds that Mr. Mensah was working an unlicensed herbal shop, China Natural Herbal Shop, found at Lapaz. Further examinations disclosed that he also retained three additional facilities—two in Greater Accra and one in the Ashanti Region—all of which had ceased licenses.

In spite of several renewal notices from the TMPC, Mr. Mensah failed to adhere to.

In response, the TMPC detailed the matter to National Security, which afterward requested ‘Dr.’ Bediako Mensah for questioning on February 6, 2025.

Throughout the questioning, he declared that the directive had come from a certain “Baba.” However, upon attestation, it was established that this advice was based on false information and had no official backing.

National Security then warned Mr. Mensah and ordered him to retract his false statement. He was directed to issue both a written and verbal disownment on the same platform through which the false information was spread. Mr. Mensah obeyed and also agreed to regularize his operations with the TMPC.

The TMPC has repeated its dedication to enforcing regulatory compliance to uphold high degrees in the practice of traditional medicine in Ghana.
