Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, engross in a hot fight with distinguished member, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, throughout the ministerial vetting of Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways-designate.
The mix-up started when Afenyo-Markin hold forth his comments.
The peaceful environment in the vetting room became tautened and bad when Ahiafor summons Afenyo-Markin of starting in bad faith, backing a 5-minutes break taken by the board.
But, he was strongly strewed and ward off by Ahiafor , who asked him to wait for his turn to speak, as another member, Mahama Shaibu, was already making a speech to the committee.
The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament of Effutu, Afenyo-Markin, was clamorous on talking, despite being told to wait for turn, an attempt by the chairman to keep properness at the committee.
The Chairman said, “Honourable Ranking and Minority Leader, you do not have the floor. You do not have the floor now; allow Honorable Mahama Shaibu to conclude, then i can give you the floor,” lifting his voice at Afenyo-Markin, trying to hush him. Upset by the Chairman’s slant, Afenyo-Markin also raised his voice in return, instructing Ahiator not to raise his voice at him.
“Chairman, don’t raise your voice. You suspended sitting for 5-minutes and called me for a discussion. I told you i was having a discussion with my caucus. We didn’t spend up to 5-minutes. Chairman, let’s operate in good faith. You called me and i said give me a moment, i will join you, then the next moment you go ahead and start.”
“Chairman, i want to register the protest that you have proceeded in bad faith. It is not understanding we had. We got to a point where i was responding to a point of order where you came in rudely to say you have the rule,” Afenyo-markin mentioned surrounded by the shouts of ei ei ei ei, from the members, asking him to withdraw his words.
Calmed by Ahiafor’s words, Afenyo-Markin threw in again, saying, ” Chairman, bring your voice down, bring your voice down. Bring your voice down, you are raising it. Bring down your voice.
