In a closely contested election, former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emerged as Ghana’s President-elect, following a decisive victory over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The election, held on December 7, 2024, saw over 18 million registered voters casting their ballots across 276 constituencies.
Despite some reports of violent clashes and fatalities, the election process was largely peaceful, with security personnel deployed to maintain order. Dr. Bawumia conceded defeat and congratulated Mahama, emphasizing the importance of unity and prioritizing the nation’s interests over individual political ambitions.
The NDC also performed strongly in the parliamentary elections, securing a significant number of seats. As Ghanaians await the official confirmation of results by the Electoral Commission, the nation looks forward to a new chapter under Mahama’s leadership.
