GAFTA make reply to ‘mischievous’ petition against James Gardiner, Kafui Danku

Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA) has detached itself from a petition calling for the removal of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner as Executive Secretary and Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA).

GAFTA’s President, Dr. Jim Fara Awindor, approved that while three executives referenced in the petition—George Bosompim, Jim Awindor, and Linus Abraham—are indeed GAFTA members, they have opposed any action.

The three were allegedly named as alternative and preferred nominees for the positions held by James Gardiner and Kafui Danku.

The appeal, inaugurate by the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, claims that Kafui Danku and James Gardiner lack the necessary skills and experience to lead the NFA successfully.

The union states that Kafui Danku and James Gardiner’s background in low-budget productions and social media branding is not enough to direct the NFA. They are calling for the selection of qualified and visionary leadership to revitalize Ghana’s film sector and add to its global industry.

But, GAFTA has recounted the request as “mischievous” and “scandalous,” urging the public and the appointing authorities to dismiss it.

“Three names appearing on the list—George Bosompim, Jim Awindor, and Linus Abraham—belong to GAFTA but are not privy to such a petition. The members are not aware of such a petition, never discussed nor signed it,” Dr. Awindor said.
