Demonstrator Oliver Barker-Vormawor has affirmed his preparation to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, to substantiate his claims that the committee asked money from ministerial appointees in exchange for assent.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Barker-Vormawor indicated cheerfulness about the process, stating, “I look forward to appearing before the committee tomorrow. This is how a democracy improves.”
Barker-Vormawor had summon members of the Appointments Committee of requesting bribes from nominees seeking approval.
At a press rundown on Tuesday, January 28, the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, disregard the claims as baseless, asserting that no member of the committee had engaged in such actions.
“To address the matter, I have directed the Clerk of the Committee to formally invite him to appear before us tomorrow to substantiate his claims, or we will apply the necessary law,” Mr. Ahiafor said.
The demonstrator is expected to give evidence to support his allegations during his appearance.
The claims have also caused a stir within Parliament, with some Minority members calling for the deferral of the vetting process until the allegations are totally looked into.
They argue that the allegations undermine the integrity of the committee and must be resolved before further proceedings.
