Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, who is the Minister-Designate for the Interior, has called for the imperative use of body cameras by police officers as a step to send growing worry over police delinquency, including extortion and brutality.
Through his review by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday, January 24, the Asawase lawmaker emphasized that executing this policy would increasing accountability and help reconstruct public belief in the Ghana Police Service.
To make a speech about the issue, he direct a policy needing all police officers to wear and activate body cameras while performing their official job.
Mr. Muntaka recognized the general public exclamation over episodes of police lawlessness, which he said have significantly destroyed confidence in the country’s law administration firms.
Describing his manifesto, Muntaka Mubarak said body cameras would give unswayed and clear records of police relationship with the public, terminating obscurity in cases of supposed lawlessness.
The proposal, if executed, is expected to put off wrongdoing and upgrade the professionalism of the Ghana Police Service.
“We will ensure that if you are a police officer and have to step out, you have your body camera on. This will take away all ambiguity because everything you do will be recorded. When officers engage in extortion or brutality, the evidence will be there to hold them accountable,” he stated.
