Mahama is not someone who seeks extravagance – Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of State-designate for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has stated that President John Mahama is not known for extravagance or ostentation. He explained that President Mahama consistently opts for cost-effective travel choices, ensuring that taxpayers’ money is not spent on lavish or unnecessary expenses.

During his vetting on Friday, January 31, Mr. Kwakye emphasized the president’s personal commitment to simplicity and fiscal responsibility when discussing the issue of presidential travel.

“President Mahama is not one for flamboyance or ostentation. I’ve had the distinct pleasure of traveling with him on a couple of occasions,” he disclosed.

“There was a time when we were supposed to join a commercial flight. He was willing to board that plane, which only had two seats left, without any of his aides.”

He recalled an instance when President Mahama flew from Frankfurt to Accra in economy class without any issues, despite having the option to choose a more luxurious arrangement.

He pointed out that, unlike former President Nana Akufo-Addo, who chartered expensive private jets for official trips, Mr. Mahama has always selected the most economical travel options available.

Mr. Kwakye reassured Ghanaians that once the presidential aircraft is confirmed to be in good condition, the President will use it for all official travels.

He emphasized that unless there are exceptional circumstances, President Mahama will consistently choose the most cost-effective and secure travel option.

Mr. Kwakye further added, “He will use it every time he has to travel, unless, of course, something makes it impossible. Even then, he will choose the cheapest option available as long as it is safe and can get him where he needs to go.”
