Ghana Police Arrest Nsoatreman FC Owner Over “Pooley” Death

Police in Bono Regional apprehended Nsoatreman FC owner and financier Ignatius Baffour Awuah after a violent altercation at a Ghana Premier League match.

The event happened on Sunday at Nana Kronmansah Park during the match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on Matchday 19.

A tragic incident occurred during the match when Francis Yaw Frimpong, well known as “Pooley,” an Asante Kotoko fan, tragically lost his life as a result of physical altercations between players and officials.Unknown perpetrators allegedly stabbed Frimpong to death.

Baffour Awuah, a former minister of employment and labour relations and a member of parliament for the Sunyani West Constituency, was arrested on suspicion of plotting murder.

He is also facing charges of inciting fans, which allegedly contributed to the fatal clash.

After the incident at Nana Kronmansah Park, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) suspended the venue indefinitely.

Premier League clubs, key stakeholders, and supporter groups will gather for an emergency meeting with the GFA on Thursday and Friday to discuss potential solutions.

Lydia Donkor, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), has also been assigned the responsibility of leading the investigation into the incident in order to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
