Ghana Football Association former vice President George Afiriyie has praised newly appointed coach of Black starlet Frimpong Manso.
Manso, who is currently the head coach of Premier League outfit Bibiani Goldstars has been named to lead the Black Starlets, replacing Laryea Kingston, who left the job during the qualifiers for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
The former Asante Kotoko and Ghana player is expected to prepare a team that will qualify for the next tournament after Kingston’s squad failed to make the tournament this year.
“For the first time, the FA has done something positive which needs applause. Frimpong Manso is a fantastic coach. I know I will get backlash from people for saying this. Sometimes the FA isn’t comfortable when I praise someone” he said in an audio aired on Kessben FM.
“But I can boldly tell you that his appointment is in the right direction. I have had the opportunity to interview Frimpong Manso before for the same position. Under Kwesi Nyantakyi, appointment wasn’t done anyhow, appointments to head any of the national teams was done in the right way”
“I’m saying this to clear the doubts of people. Frimpong Manso is one of the best when it comes to writing of match reports after a game. He is very good at what he does. That’s a clear indication that he understands his job. And with his appointment, I can say with all certainty that the FA has done a good job with his appointment”
Manso is returning to the role he occupied between 2009 to 2010, having previously worked as assistant coach of the Black Starlets. His career as coach of the national team also saw him work assistant coach of the Black Meteors.
In his club career, Manso has coached Stade d’Abidjan in Ivory Coast, Asante Kotoko, Karela United, B. A. United, Kessben FC (currently Medeama SC) and Nkoranza Warriors in Ghana.
The Black Starlets have not qualified for the Africa U17 champions since finishing second in 2017 in Gabon.
The two-time African champions were the first Ghanaian national team to win the FIFA World Cup.
