The event, which will span three days, is one of the most important activities on the circuit’s academic and extracurricular calendar. It is being organized under the mandate of the Ghana Education Service to promote sports and physical education among pupils, while also serving as a platform to identify and nurture young talents who can represent the circuit at district, zonal, regional, and eventually national levels.
The competition will involve a range of sporting disciplines across different age categories. At the Under-13 level, the boys will compete in soccer while the girls will participate in netball. The Under-15 boys will contest in handball and volleyball, while the girls in the same category will have the opportunity to compete in netball, handball, and volleyball. These carefully selected disciplines are aimed at giving equal opportunities to both boys and girls, while ensuring that pupils gain exposure to a variety of games that test their strength, agility, teamwork, and resilience.
The significance of the Bonwire Circuit Inter-School Sports Competition goes beyond winning trophies and medals. It is about fostering discipline, teamwork, leadership, and unity among pupils. It also serves as an avenue for promoting girls’ participation in sports, a key area that continues to receive national attention. By creating space for girls to actively take part in netball, handball, and volleyball, the organizers are contributing to gender balance in school sports. The competition equally provides a sense of identity and pride as schools within the circuit come together in healthy rivalry, cheered on by their teachers, parents, and community members.
Preparations towards the competition are far advanced. Schools have already begun training sessions, sharpening their skills and strategies ahead of the big occasion. Referees and officials have been lined up to ensure fairness and discipline, while the organizing committee has assured participants of a well-structured and smoothly run event. Teachers and parents are also expected to play their part by encouraging and supporting the young athletes throughout the program.
